How LumenLuxe was born out of despair in front of the mirror

Where our journey began

For years there was one thing I could not fix — acne. Not the ordinary kind. The kind that keeps coming back. Creams, gels, prescriptions from a dermatologist — they helped for a while and then nothing again. Every morning, the same look in the mirror. When it goes on for years, you stop believing that anything really works.

The doctor in Seoul who wasn't selling anything

In 2023 my friend and I set off on a trip across Asia. Thailand, Vietnam, Korea. In Seoul we met a doctor who specialised in LED therapy. He did not offer us a product. He sat down and started explaining — how different wavelengths of light reach different layers of the skin, why blue works differently from red, what to do and what is just marketing noise. It was the first time I felt someone was telling me the truth about how skincare really works.

After two weeks I noticed the first changes. The inflamed spots started to fade and new ones stopped appearing. I stood in front of the mirror not knowing what to feel — relief, surprise, or anger that I had waited so long.

Kuala Lumpur, a laptop and hundreds of studies

I knew one thing — I could not keep this to myself. My friend felt the same. The last stop of the trip was Kuala Lumpur. And right there, in a rented flat with a laptop and hundreds of scientific papers, we started building LumenLuxe. We wanted to understand every wavelength, every mode, every number — so we could stand behind every mask we ship.
